So the Kettle Gallery decided to hold a photo contest, the subject was Deep Ellum, the rules were few, and the notice, at least my notice, was short. Having received a call from Hdweezy over at Slumberproject that this was a thing, we hatched a plan, coordinated our efforts, and set out to capture Deep Ellum in one image, though many were taken.

In an effort to improve our photography, many of us may buy a new piece of gear, or visit a new location, but, while those kinds things may give us the mental boost to get over the hump, what many, many pro photographers recommend over and over is to just keep shooting.
So, for some, flash is mandatory, and as a tool in a photographer's kit, it's indispensable, but what happens when it gets dark & you post up on a tripod, crank the iso waaay down, and let long exposure do it's thing? Well, this...
So I recently took a trip to the country, and while I did do some color shooting, my best work from the weekend was the black and white images I shot with the amazing Canon SL1. I you haven't yet shot in black and white, you have got to go out and give it a go.
